Find the Right Look and Protection for Your Home

A DoorBird is one of the first things people see when they arrive at your home. It should look the part.

Choose from clean, brushed stainless steel, warm metallic finishes, a wide range of powder-coated colours and distinctive brass and bronze options. There’s plenty of room to make your DoorBird feel at home on a modern façade, a classic entry or something wonderfully individual.

There’s one practical detail to consider before choosing: if your property is near salt water, the material beneath the finish matters as much as the colour.

A finish for every kind of front door

Stainless steel
A crisp, understated choice that suits almost any home. DoorBird offers standard V2A (304) stainless steel, and V4A (316) stainless steel which is salt-water resistant.

Metallic finishes
Bronze, titanium, gold, brass and chrome effects bring more colour and character to the entrance. These finishes use a PVD surface treatment; the underlying steel and available options depend on the model and configuration.

Powder-coated colours

Prefer a close match to your window frames, gate or front door? Powder-coated RAL colours make that possible, from quietly complementary to “yes, that was absolutely intentional”.

Real brass/bronze finishes
Architectural bronze and real burnished brass have a character all their own. Their surface can develop a changing patina over time, so each panel may become more individual with age. Both of these finishes are made from a solid piece of Brass.

DoorBird’s finish range includes brushed and polished stainless steel, PVD metallic finishes, powder-coated options and brass finishes. The precise choices depend on the door station and configuration.

Near salt water? Choose the right protection from corrosion

Our recommendation: if your property is within 1 km of any body of salt water, choose a salt-water-resistant configuration. That includes homes near the ocean, bays, harbours, estuaries and other salt-water areas.

The closer the property is to the water—and the more exposed the entrance is to coastal air or salt spray—the higher the level of protection we recommend. For very close or exposed locations, choose the strongest suitable configuration available for your model: a V4A base with a PVD or powder-coated finish, where offered.

Property and exposure

Title

More than 1 km from salt water, with no notable salt-air exposure

Within 1 km of salt water (more than 500m)

Very close to the water or directly exposed to coastal conditions (within 500m)

Our Recommendation

Title

Choose the finish you like; standard V2A may be suitable

Choose a salt-water-resistant configuration; we recommend Stainless V4A as a minimum

Choose the highest suitable protection level available, such as a powder-coated finish. The highest level of protection is powder-coated or PVD on V4A material which can be configured in the DoorBird online configurator

Why do we use 1 km as a guide? DoorBird describes V4A as suitable for salt-water conditions and recommends it for coastal properties or homes near salt water, but it does not publish a universal distance boundary. Our 1 km advice is a practical, conservative recommendation. Actual exposure depends on factors such as wind, shelter and the position of the door station.

Materials with character

Burnished brass and architectural bronze evolve over time, creating their distinctive expression through change.

Materials with character

Burnished brass and architectural bronze are designed to change with time. Each panel develops its own patina, shaped by touch and its surroundings. Tones may deepen or shift, giving every finish a character all its own.

This evolving surface is part of the design, not a defect. The appearance may change, but the panel’s function, quality and durability remain unaffected.

Which DoorBird finish is best for a coastal property?

For a property within 1 km of salt water, we recommend a salt-water-resistant configuration and generally recommend V4A stainless steel as a minimum. PVD and Powder-coated models will also offer protection from salt water corrosion.   For very close or exposed locations, look for the highest suitable protection level available for your model.

Is V4A stainless steel salt-water resistant?

DoorBird describes V4A as salt-water resistant. For stronger protection, some models can be configured with a V4A base and a PVD or powder-coated finish.

Does DoorBird specify a distance from the sea?

DoorBird’s guidance refers to coastal or salt-water exposure rather than a universal distance, as humidity, salt water concentration, wind patterns, and building exposure can all have an affect on how susceptible the unit will be to corrosion. We use 1 km as our practical recommendation for customers choosing a configuration.

Can I get a particular colour in V4A steel?

Some finishes and colours are available on a V4A base, but options vary by model. Check the product options or online configurator, or contact us before ordering.
